LES CONFINES
A perfect holiday destination whatever the season
When deciding the perfect time to visit Les Confines it is worth remembering that the famous gardens have been thoughtfully designed to retain their beauty throughout the year. As the seasons change so do the landscape of the gardens, with different flowers blooming and retreating, yet all with their own individual picturesque magic.
Thanks to the South of France climate the weather is usually warm enough to eat outside from end of March all the way through to mid-October. Spring and early Autumn are therefore wonderful times of the year to spend at Les Confines if you wanted to enjoy Provence without the heat and business of the Summer season and still be able to admire the gardens in full bloom.
Spring
This is our favourite time of year at Les Confines. In early April the stunning Wysteria takes over the walkways within Les Confines. Strolling through the gardens under their majestic purple blossom it’s impossible to not be immersed in the magic of your surroundings.
Seeing the garden coming alive makes for a beautiful backdrop to lunches at the large outdoor tables. Time passes quickly outside with Easter egg hunts throughout the expansive gardens, swimming in one of the two outdoor pools or tiring out the children in the large playground. The cooler weather also means perfect conditions for tennis, football or basketball on the large outdoor court.
For those who prefer a different type of exercise Les Confines is ten minutes from the famous St. Remy de Provence which has a wide array of shops and boutiques to be tempted by as you peruse the cobbled streets. There are also many different activities and days out to be enjoyed in the local area that would be all the more pleasurable without the heat and crowds of the Summer.
Summer
Les Confines has so much to offer – you will find if you visit in the height of Summer there’ll be little reason to leave the comfort of the house and gardens. Whether you are cooling off in the swimming pools or firing up the BBQ for a leisurely lunch it is hard to think of a more picturesque or relaxing location to enjoy the Provencal heat.
The house itself was built over a hundred and fifty years ago in the local tradition, with very thick walls. This has the effect of keeping it warm in winter, and keeping it naturally cool in the summer. The large plane trees offer the perfect shade for lunch at the outdoor marble dining tables overlooking the gardens.
Autumn
With mature trees and an abundance of grasses, the gardens of Les Confines once again put on a spectacular performance over the Autumn months. The days are still mild and perfect conditions for exploring the local area by bicycle; Les Confines has several available for guests to borrow. Even up until the end of October it is still warm enough to eat outside, whilst the early evening golden Autumnal sun allows you to see the garden in another beautiful light.
Winter
Les Confines is a wonderful and memorable place to spend the festive season. The house is well set up inside for cozy evenings playing board games by the fire or watching Christmas classics on the large flatscreen in the television room. Long walks in the garden in the early morning mist are when the gardens at Les Confines look their most dramatic.
The local towns of Avignon and St Remy play host to many different exciting Christmas markets, and there are an array of things to do in the region for all ages. With the abundance of incredible restaurants nearby there is no denying you will be well-fed whether you choose to venture out, or stay in and hire one of the many top chefs we can recommend to create a tailor-made feast in the comfort of Les Confines’ elegant fire lit dining room.
